The little one was very happy that I brought the Tonkas with.
The family and I took our camper out for the first time this past weekend. I was good to get out and do something. We stayed in our
county
forest preserve’s campground. The camper was great. The only real issue was the right side didn’t go up quite as far as the left side, thus making the door’s top edge catch on the top’s weatherstripping (see blue tape). I’ll have to try and figure out how to actually fix that
. The AC was clutch for sleeping, because it was hot as balls this past weekend.
This weekend’s firewood was the parts of 40 unfinished clocks ... THANKS COVID!
We had a lot of fun. We’ve stayed at this campground before. It’s only 12 miles from home, and it’s really nice
. We rode our
bikes, we went fishing (not catching), ate plenty of campfire food. It was a great time.
We like a campsite that is surrounded by trees, but still not too far from the bathroom.

That reminds me of camping as a kid. We had a tent trailer like that one, but probably 30 years older. Same design though.
Please don't tell me those wood scraps were hardwood...

I camped a 3 day weekend last weekend with the NoBo 10.6. Just barely had the AC installed in time and it was glorious for the first and last night. The middle night the heat actually kicked on.
It was nice to get away for a bit.

I’d love to get a pop-up trailer and go camping again. I missed my opportunity last year, as now, such trailers are very few and far between, and more expensive.

Yeah, I’m glad I decided to snag this one last year at the end of the season. I could flip it now and make a nice profit, but then I’d have sad kids.

For some reason, I didn’t realize you could get an A/C in a pop-up (you know, on account of the screens having an R-value of basically zero) . This is a game changer, and can be towed safely by almost anything.
I’m past the “sleeping on the ground” part of my life unless necessary, but I really want to get closer to parks and other overnight locations without toting 5,000# of air behind me (ie, full campers).

That’s painful. I recently used a few small maple scraps to make some (4) end grain coasters. Say, that might actually make for a good shop class project...

My parents got one they want to get rid of. I wouldn’t mind keeping it for a second sleeping area for my uncles place. But if they sell so be it. I had to help them sell their last camper on CL. So it’s not going anywhere soon.

Oh yeah, it's actually pretty common. Pop-ups have canvas/plastic covers for the screens. You just keep those closed. Granted, it is not energy efficient, and at high noon on a 95° day with the sun beating down on it, it was pretty toasty in the camper. Once the shade came over and then the sun went down, it was nice and cool by bedtime.

The volume of scraps that I deal with annually, it would simply be impossible to keep and use it all. My predecessor tried keeping everything. You couldn't even get in the wood room to get to the good stuff.

Fair enough. I wish I could get my hands on that kind of scrap.

If you want, I’ll load up a flat-rate box and send it to you for the price of shipping.

That’s almost tempting. The best price I’ve found on cherry shorts here is $6/board foot, and that was on a particularly good sale. Although I bet shipping wouldn’t be cheap either.
Tried looking it up, and it'd be $50-60 for a decent box, up to 20 lbs. I might as well put it towards buying larger boards. Besides, my current project list is growing faster than I can get things done.

That's why you go with a flat rate box. A 12x12x6 costs like $21 to ship, up to 70 pounds.

Even to Canada? I thought it would still be $50-60.

Unrelated: I started working on a mahogany picture frame this evening:
I can see why people like working with it. It cuts like butter. (I’ve also heard of Mahogany lung - a condition from inhaling too much dust. I’m trying to be quite careful when cutting it).
